As the weather heats up, Grand Rapids residents can look forward to fun activities happening all around the city.
Since GRNow’s HQ is at the Hendrik (which makes us West Side residents) we have rounded up over 15 West Side events we ALL can look forward to.
5/16: The Holiday Spring Wine Event: Stop down to The Holiday from 6:30-9:30 PM to enjoy their first ever spring wine event. There will be a large selection of wine, great food and fun for all that attend. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $35.
5/21: Comedy Showcase: If you love comedy, you have to come down to check out the local comedians who will be performing at New Holland Brewing The Knickerbocker. Four comedians are featured, and the event goes from 9-10:30 PM.
5/25: Grand Rapids isn’t called Beer City for nothing. But if you’re not sure why the city earned this title, maybe you should take the Grand Rapids West Side Beer Tour this spring. Going from 12-4 PM, lucky guests will visit four of the city’s finest breweries for a private tour and tastings.
6/1: Biking and fitness enthusiasts will enjoy participating in the 46th Annual 100 Grand Bicycle Tour. It kicks off on the West Side at 7 AM. From there, bicyclists take off to tour the north and west sides of town.
6/4: Harmony Hall hosts this great drag event which will feature guest performances by Grand Rapids’ finest drag acts. So You Think You Can Drag? Cycle 3 will go from 7-9 PM and there will be a donation box set up to aid the West Grand Neighborhood Organization in their efforts.
6/8: This June, City Built Brewing Company will be hosting the Bridge Blast 2019 event in celebration of two years in business. It will be an all day event running from 8 AM to 11 PM which will include family and pet friendly activities, live music, a barre class and plenty of beer!
6/14-9/26: There’s always something cool happening at the John Ball Zoo! This summer it kicks off with RendeZoo on June 14. This will be a fundraiser and a celebration of the zoo’s 30th anniversary. There will be great food and live entertainment on hand. The event goes from 6:30-10:00 PM.
Then, starting June 27, the Rock Roar Pour event kicks off. This is a 21+ event that allows guest to see the zoo as it has never been seen before. Drinks will be served and live music will be featured. Dates and entertainment are as follows:
6/21: Enjoy some physical activity and get in touch with nature by participating in the West Side Longest Day 5K. Participants will hike the trails of Blandford Nature Center with likeminded members of their community.
6/21: Movies on Monroe is an outdoor film series that takes place every summer in Grand Rapids on the banks of the Grand River. The 21st will mark a special showing of Into the Spider-Verse and A Star is Born. Gates open at 6 PM for pre-show entertainment and movies start at 7:30. There will also be food trucks on site.

6/22: At Divas of the Decades: At Benefit for Kids’ Food Basket you can enjoy awesome drag performances and great food and beer all for a good cause. It’s all going down at Harmony Hall at 9 PM and benefits Kids’ Food Basket, a community solution to childhood hunger.
8/9-8/11: The Jumping at the Westside event will make for a weekend full of fun. It is hosted by Rapid Rhythms, a local vintage dance swing group that offers classes, social dances and more. The event is a great opportunity for swing dancers to get together, dance, drink, eat and enjoy art.
