You may have heard of the Iditarod races that take place on the snowy banks of Alaska.
But a Miditarod?
Taking place in Grand Rapids?
In the middle of summer?
If this sounds silly to you, that’s exactly what it is! Read on to find out more about this event that will be taking place on August 4th right here in West Michigan.
Okay, so the event does slightly resemble the traditional Iditarod race, but is been somewhat urbanized. Sleds have been replaced by shopping carts and the dogs have been replaced by a team of your craziest friends wearing ridiculous costumes. While racing, your team of 4-6 racers can gain points by fulfilling checkpoint challenges. Other activities will include a costume contest, bar crawl, after party, food trucks, beer tent and live bands.
Those interested in participating will need to be 21+ and will need to register in advance. The race will start at Heartside Park at 11 AM. Here, team members will hear some opening remarks and the mandatory, mystery checkpoints will be disclosed. The awards ceremony will take place from 3-6 PM. Winners will be eligible for prizes and, of course, an epic after party awaits. Be sure to bring a valid ID, cash for racing fuel (drinks), your party socks and a shopping cart which matches your team’s theme and/ or costumes.
And not only is this event sure to be a lot of fun, it is all for a good cause. Proceeds will be donated to a number of nonprofit organizations in the West Michigan area.
This Miditarod promises to be one of the silliest things to happen in the West Michigan area ever….so you don’t want to miss it. Start planning early to make sure you are part of the fun. Then you can tell all your friends about the great time you had during this event…or they never have to know.
