Grand Haven musician Dave Palmer may best be known these days as the mastermind behind the successful Walk The Beat festival which every year boasts performances by dozens of W. Michigan bands and raises thousands of dollars to buy instruments and help budding musicians who otherwise couldn’t afford to ply their art.
But Dave is also an accomplished singer and songwriter who surrounds himself with talent. And he’ll be performing for Local Spins Wednesday at SpeakEZ Lounge as part of a new mission: The “Play for a Purpose Tour” that will hit 10 venues in four cities for the express purpose of raising money to send musical instruments to a school in Haiti that was started by former Grand Haven-ite Michael “Beans” Gardner. Funds also will be raised for the MELODY project to bring music to Michigan Juvenile Detention Centers in hopes of making “a positive change” through music. Joining Palmer on stage will be Ric VanWheelden and Todd Hix.
Opening the show will be Van Mason — the duo of Dustin Mason and Bleu VanDyke.
Local Spins Wednesdays are presented by SpeakEZ Lounge, Local Spins, Perrin Brewing Company and WYCE. As always, there are Michigan beer specials on tap, free parking in the lot kitty-corner from SpeakEZ on Monroe Avenue NW and part of the proceeds from sales of Local Spins 2018 Calendars at this show will go to support Palmer’s cause (with a free local CD given away with every order).
