Flat River Songwriter Showcase

September 28 at 7:00pm

LowellArts is pleased to present an evening of authentic songs, stories, and camaraderie from some of the Michigan’s finest songwriters. Hosted by Josh Rose, the event features four incredible songwriting artists in the intimate space of the LowellArts gallery. Gracing the stage will be Kyle Rasche, Kaitlin Rose, Ed Dupas, and Audra Kubat. With over ten full length studio albums and forty years of shows between them, these artists will be sharing their catalog in an in-the-round format, in which each person takes a turn, sharing wisdom, vignettes, and perhaps even a little humor in between.

Songwriters:

Ed Dupas
from Ann Arbor, MI

Americana singer-songwriter Ed Dupas’ lived-in melodies unwind with reflective lyrics and speak to the current state of the human condition soothing where possible, agitating where necessary, and seeking change where appropriate. Crafted from the heart, Ed Dupas’ simple yet soulful music flows from an array of broad social themes to more personal narratives of love and loss. Rooted in both realism and idealism, Ed’s musical goal is deeper inquiry and exploration for himself and his listeners. With comparisons ranging from Steve Earle to Bruce Springsteen, Ed paints a sonic picture of the road less traveled and the world de-familiarized. Ed Dupas creates and shares well-worn wide-awake music.

Kyle Rasche
from Caledonia, MI

Kyle Rasche has been quietly forging a formidable catalog of beautifully somber songs. As the frontman for West Michigan’s Chain of Lakes, Kyle has been gracing venues in our state for over ten years, offering incredibly poignant lyrics amidst a sonic landscape that brings to mind Iron and Wine or Coldplay. That sonic landscape is also a physical one, swept by a Great Lakes upbringing and polished by a gritty songwriting approach. His vocals are like the soft breezes that blow on calm days over the Straits of Mackinac. Alternating between electric and acoustic guitar, Kyle’s music draws the listener where they should be–closer toward that landscape.

Kaitlin Rose
from Kalamazoo, MI

Kaitlin Rose has been playing guitar and writing songs since the summer of 2001 after finding her mom’s Alvarez in the hallway closet. By the end of the day she taught herself the theme song to The Godfather, which made her Italian grandmother very proud. Since then, Kaitlin has recorded four full length solo-albums in various basements and attics of friends and family members including: All My Roses, Sentience, The Ideal, and Organic Travels. In Spring of 2013, she recorded a nine-song demo with Ian Gorman at La Luna Studio. In May of 2015, she released The Other Side, a full-length record with a backing band.

Audra Kubat
from Detroit, MI

Detroit Music Award-winning singer/songwriter Audra Kubat has released 6 albums to critical acclaim in a career that spans over 20 years. A composer, performer, and educator, Kubat’s work has earned her a place in the community as a resource for empowerment through songwriting and music. Her methods of composition articulate grace and uncover hidden places that defy easy categorization. An offering of stark and beautiful reality that possesses experience yet embraces the whimsical. She has shared bills with Aimee Mann, Rodriguez, Roberta Flack, Greta Van Fleet, The War and Treaty, Whit Hill, and Jolie Holland, to name a few. Kubat has toured extensively throughout the US and sells records to an international audience.
