Every third Monday of the month from September through April (except December, when we have the WMJS Holiday party). WMJS invites a different group to entertain each month.
This month we are featuring the Beer City Saxes! They are a swinging jazz saxophone ensemble with piano, bass and drums. The group performs standards, jazz classics and originals in 4 brothers and Supersax styles. This style places emphasis on tight harmonies and often includes arrangements of classic solos, especially those of Charlie Parker. They also perform originals and a wide variety of timeless standards such as “Save Your Love for Me”, “Caravan”, “Over the Rainbow”, and “It Could Happen to You”. Various audio samples of the Beer City Saxes can be heard on Youtube.
Saxophones: James Hayward, Tom Lockwood, Bob Nixon, Greg Marsden, Tom Stansell, Mike Lutley, Gary McCourry.
Rhythm Section: Steve Talaga, piano; Eddie Eicher, drums; Dave Collee, bass.
