Pinky’s up! There’s a GRAND NEW wine bar on the GR scene.
Forty Pearl is a family-owned, full-service tasting room and an exciting new addition located in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. Their mission is to provide a unique dining and tasting experience, as well as the finest Michigan exclusive wine selection. The Brengman Brothers winery, you might have heard of one of their vineyard – famed Crain Hill, have long dreamed of opening a tasting room in the area. They are excited to be able to make this dream a reality.
Forty Pearl will serve the fine wines pressed at the Brengman Brother’s vineyard. It will also showcase a variety of wineries and a distillery -Bel Lago, Bonobo, and Grand Traverse Distillery. Those who visit Forty Pearl will be able to enjoy tastings and take home bottles of their favorites. Besides providing the community with a great tasting room, it will also host wine and food education daily. These events will feature guest sommeliers, chefs who specialize in wine appreciation, and experts in the wine industry to present workshops. Future updates for this feature will be provided via Forty Pearl’s calendar of events.
Contrary to what most would believe upon tasting The Brengman Brothers wines, their vineyard is not located in an exotic city in France, but rather in Traverse City, MI. However, the brothers have the knowledge and expertise to create a wine that is both expressive and complex. They cite the cool, clean Michigan air as providing ideal circumstances for growing. The true secret to their success? It’s all in the dirt! While the ideal growing environment Michigan provides makes them call the area home to their vineyards, it’s also about family rooted in the community.
The Brengman Brother’s grandparents were Detroit area hospitality celebrities with the patriarch operating the famous Continental Bowl, while Grandma Brengman leads the kitchen crew at the family restaurant. The Brothers believe that this sense of hospitality can be traced through their DNA, providing motivation to create a successful business, and provide Michigan residents with the enjoyment that comes from their vineyards.
The farm is committed to sustaining an ecological balance while creating their wine. Although this commitment increases the cost of making the wine, they are about the environment and overall quality of the wine. This is executed by raising their grapes organically and relying on natural resources whenever possible. When it comes to making their wine, the Brothers select the best grapes that are tested daily. This is done to determine which areas of the vineyard will match the style of wine it will make. The grapes are then pressed into high-quality wines which can be purchased via website, at their vineyard, or Forty Pearl Tasting Room.
Though the tasting room provides a convenient way for Grand Rapids locals to experience the Brengman Brothers’ wine, a trip to the vineyard is also one that is well worth taking. Just five miles outside of Traverse City, the vineyard provides scenic views and educational information on the making of the wine. It also features a wine shop and tasting room. The Vineyard, Crain Hill Tasting Room, and outdoor area is also a beautiful location for weddings, dinners, and private events. The vineyard also hosts in-house dinners, socials and wine education workshops.
The Brengman Brothers have a long tradition in hospitality and expert knowledge in the growing of wine. Forty Pearl is looking forward to sharing their space within Grand Rapids as a way for visitors to taste their delectable wines, enjoy their soon to come small plate menu, and take part in their educational workshops. When you step into Forty Pearl, be sure to tell them GRNow sent you! We promise you it will be love at first sip.
