Warm weather is officially here for the year and that can only mean one thing…patios. The official start of Summer is just a few short weeks away and the outdoors are weighing heavy on the brain. The anticipation to eat, drink, and be merry (outside that is) has us brainstorming the best patios in Grand Rapids and surrounding areas. Each patio is linked to their website so you can see happy hour deals, make reservations, browse their social media accounts, and check out the menus. Let’s take a closer look at some of the best patios Grand Rapids has to offer.
Blue Water Grill is just a short drive away from downtown Grand Rapids and offers stunning views of Versluis Lake. Blue Water also has their own garden right off the patio which fills the air with the scent of fresh herbs. We love that the menu features plenty of vegetarian and vegan-friendly dishes.
Take a break from the hustle and bustle of downtown life and head to Rockford, MI. Have a seat right on the beautiful Bostwick Lake while enjoying a cocktail. Our favorite thing to order at Bostwick Lake Inn is a deck oven pizza, yum!
Catch the breeze coming off the Flat River in Lowell Michigan while enjoying the views at Flat River Grill. Their patio is located right on the river and provides a calming atmosphere. Check out the 50% of appetizers during happy hour.
This 19th-century mansion is located just East of downtown Grand Rapids. Hang out with family and friends in their outdoor space filled with yard games. This space can even be rented out for private events.
Right in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids is The B.O.B. Be sure to spend some time on the patio at Bobarino’s this summer while enjoying a pint from BOB’s Brewery. We recommend pairing that cold pint with a wood fired pizza.
Rose’s has been a long time East Grand Rapids favorite. Reed’s Lake looks stunning from every view on the deck. Rose’s also offers an enclosed patio just in case the weather does not want to cooperate.
This Biergarten is new to the patio scene in Grand Rapids. This large outdoor space offers extensive seating, an outdoor bar, and plenty of games to keep everyone occupied. If there’s one thing we’ve learned about this new outdoor space it’s that the West Side sure is the best side. Check out Sovengard’s FacebookF account for all of their upcoming summer events.
You can’t miss the beautiful architecture that is The Knickerbocker. Located on the West Side on Bridge Street, New Holland has quickly become a go-to brewery in Grand Rapids. Complete with fire pits and outdoor games, this outdoor space will even keep you warm on a chilly day.
We love catching some rays on the Harmony patio that’s conveniently located in the heart of Eastown. Wood fired pizzas and craft beer make for the perfect meal. Plus, fido is more than welcome to come hang out here.
Our Patio Bar & Bier Garden is truly something to enjoy. With an extensive bourbon selection, plenty of canned and draft craft beers and friendly “everyone’s a regular” service, THB has something for everyone. Come enjoy the West Bar on the Best Side.
Creston is officially almost one year old and has already given us phenomenal beer, a new brunch hangout, and now a patio. Located right on the side of the building on Quimby Street is a beautiful little patio space. Although little, this patio is fierce. Get there early to claim your spot.
Nothing says summer is here than fresh sushi on the patio at Maru. Located on the vibrant Cherry Street, Maru delivers fresh food and great happy hour specials that make this patio a can’t miss stop.
Elk Brewing Company (Wealthy Street and Comstock Park locations)
Elk Brewing not only gave us one epic patio but two. Check out the Wealthy Street location for a game of bags and bring fido with you, because this patio is another pet-friendly location. Fido can even get his own drink…water of course. Elk in Comstock Park is the ideal spot for grabbing a beer both before and after a Whitecaps game.
The patio at Donkey is a popular destination on Wealthy Street. Their extensive tequila menu will keep you busy all patio season long. The patio is especially tempting on Tuesdays when Donkey features a “Tortally Tuesday” special.
The patio at Winchester is perfect for a date night or meeting up with friends. The patio is especially beautiful on a summer morning while enjoying their delicious brunch menu. If brunch isn’t your thing, we recommend checking out the always delicious Moroccan Chicken Wings. These bad boys were recently featured on The Cooking Channels “Cheap Eats”.
Jonny Bz has a great old school vibe of classic American food. Enjoy some of their house smoked meats or a classic hotdog on the patio, which is located right off Wealthy Street. Jonny Bz recently added a happy hour menu that features fantastic food and drink specials (we’re talking $3 craft beers and $4 smoked wings). Visit their website for more details on happy hour specials.
The Rockwell Republic patio is a hidden secret in the middle of busy and booming downtown Grand Rapids. Enjoy a pitcher of house made sangria for $10.75 from 3pm-7pm on Monday through Friday. Rockwell Republic is also home to great sushi, which is also a highlight to the happy hour specials.
Founders Brewing has the patio of all patios. This outdoor space expands the entire length of the tap house. This large space is equipped with outdoor heaters to make is appropriate for all Michigan weather. During the blistering February month, Founders host their annual “Firkin Freezeout” which makes use of their large outdoor space even in the coldest of months.
Located right next to Van Andel Arena, Iron offers a nice outdoor space to enjoy their Midwestern comfort food and handcrafted cocktails. This patio provides the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of downtown life.
The HopCat patio is the perfect stop for craft beer lovers. With a variety to choose from, we guarantee you’ll stay for more than one drink. The $5 off burger special that runs Monday-Thursday (3pm-6pm) is another great reason to check out this patio.
Nothing says fun in the sun like bourbon. A new restaurant to the West Side, One Bourbon recently opened up their outdoor space that is filled with the beautiful Michigan sunshine and of course, bourbon. Their staff is incredibly knowledgeable about just about every bourbon across the country.
Another new outdoor spot to the 2017 patio season. Located right off the booming Bridge Street, Butchers Union is creating a peaceful cafe style atmosphere within a busy city. We highly recommend grabbing the West Village Double Cheeseburger.
Located right off the Grand River, jdek offers delicious hand-crafted cocktails and a nice view of the river. Expect to get your Moscow Mule fix at jdek this year with four new specialty mules which are made with local craft spirits.
The patio at The Kitchen by Wolfgang Puck is a great spot to catch live music on Friday and Saturday night. Complete with outdoor bar and full menu. This patio is also located right off the Grand River, which offers up stunning summer time views. Head over to their website to check out all the summer parties they will be hosting this year. Located on Northland Drive, The Score has been keeping the patio parties going for years. The Score has everything from live music to great happy hour deals to volleyball courts. This is a can’t miss hang out for the summer season. Also, we can never tell if The Score is in Grand Rapids or somewhere tropical.
