The first Harry Potter book was released in 1997. More than 20 years later, it still remains a favorite pop culture attraction for children and adults alike. On June 23rd, West Michigan residents will have the opportunity to relive the magic that the books and movies have brought us, while supporting a number of worthy causes, by participating in Sparta’s Harry Potter in the Park event at Roger’s Park.

The event will begin at 3:00 PM and incorporate a “Tri Wizard Theme”. The ticket includes admission to the park where guests will be able to enjoy onstage performances, snakes and owls, arts and crafts, demonstrations and house points competitions. Guests will also have the opportunity to stroll through the Wizards and Wands Emporium, Horcrux, Hunt, Gnome Tossing and more. Children under five will be admitted free.

Separate tickets will be required for guests who wish to participate in Quidditch Training with the GVSU Grindylows, Swish and Flick Painting and Herbology. Children under five who wish to participate in these events will require an extra ticket as well.

Also featured as part of this year’s event will be the much celebrated Arthur Weasley Duck Race. Proceeds of the race will be donated towards Now Playing 4 Kids, a nonprofit whose mission is to provide at-risk children an opportunity to enjoy the world of the performing arts. Each duck raced will help an at-risk child attend a movie, festival, fair or other type of performing arts event. The winning duck will also receive house points and a cash prize of $250.

Other organizations that will be receiving donations from the event include Fantastic Beasts K-9 Camo Companions and Michele’s Rescue. The “Free Dobby Help to the Homeless” sock drive will be another charitable event that will be taking place.

Although the event starts at 3 PM, the Tri Wizard Food Truck Rally will begin at 11 AM. Guests will have the opportunity to sample foods from various trucks and vote for their favorites. A ticket is not required for those wishing to participate in the food truck rally.

Those that are interested in attending Potter at the Park should keep posted as other activities may be added. To purchase tickets and find out more, check out Potter in the Park.
