It's the first big weekend for holiday and Christmas events with the Art Van Santa Parade, Irving Berlin's White Christmas, Nite Lites and the second annual Yule Run, I'll Walk 5K.
Grand Rapids Int'l Wine, Beer & Food Festival - Returning to DeVos Place for a fourth year, sample and purchase wines, beers and food from local regional and international vendors, catch seminars on vineyards, healthy eating, cooking and brewing and enjoy paired dinners from restaurants like Bar Divani, San Chez and six.one.six. General admission is $15; ages 21+ welcome.
Irving Berlin's White Christmas - Broadway Grand Rapids presents the holiday classic on stage at DeVos Performance Hall that features classic Berlin hits like "Blue Skies," "How Deep is the Ocean?" and the title song "White Christmas". Tickets from $34.50.
Yule Run, I'll Walk 5K - The second annual family 5K race will start on the White Pine Trail before touring Fifth Third Ballpark, currently decked out in tens of thousands of lights as part of the Nite Lites display. Event gets underway at 7 p.m.
Owl City - Adam Young's musical project best known for hit 'Fireflies' visits the stage at The Intersection with special guest Days Difference. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
The Wizard of Oz - The Grand Rapids Civic Theatre brings the classic musical to life with spectacular sets and costumes along with favorite songs from the MGM movie. Show runs November 18 - December 18; admission is $16 to $30 for adults, $16 for students.
Jamey Johnson - The Orbit Room welcomes the Grammy Award-nominated country singer who hit #1 on the country charts with his most recent album, "The Guitar Song". Tickets are $29.50 in advance, $35 at the door.
All Friday Events
Art Van Santa Parade - Presented by the Grand Rapids Jaycees Saturday, November 19 at 9 a.m., the parade has been the traditional holiday season kick-off for the region for more than 100 years. See nearly 100 entries and floats, and a visit from Santa Claus. The route has changed for 2011: it will start at the corner of Michigan and Ottawa, travel south on Ottawa past Calder Plaza and end at Fulton near Van Andel Arena.
Knock Out Cancer - At the JW Marriott, see local celebrities like Rob Bliss and Jennifer Pascua square off in the ring for the charity boxing fundraiser. Tickets are nearly sold out (as of 11/17) and proceeds benefit the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital.
Nite Lites - Returning for a 14th year, see Fifth Third Ball transformed into a lighted mile-long winter wonderland November 19-January 1, 2012. Open daily 6-10 p.m. (including holidays); price per vehicle is $12.
