|Brad Paisley's Amazing Concert (review)|
Brad Paisley put on an amazing concert last night. If you were fortunate enough to be one of the 11,000 plus fans to snag tickets to the sold-out opening show of his Virtual Reality World Tour 2012, you know exactly what I mean. The guitar playing, the lights, the singing…well, lets not get ahead of ourselves here.
Brad had two opening acts grace the Van Andel Arena stage last night, both of which had loyal fans scattered throughout the crowd. First on-stage was the 2011 American Idol winner Scotty McCreery. During his 25-minute set, McCreery flawlessly sang his way through songs off of his debut album, Clear As Day, which has recently been certified platinum. He entertained us his well-known single "I Love You This Big" to his sweet "Better Than That." All in all, he was well received by the crowd, and didn’t seem the least bit nervous about performing at his first big-time tour.
Next came The Band Perry (TBP). When they appeared onstage, I was in line at the merchandise table, so I couldn’t see them. But I could hear them. The roar of the crowd was so loud that almost everyone who wasn’t in their seats quickly rushed back to their seats, myself included. I paid for my overpriced concert wares and booked it back to mine.
Once back to my seat, they were already into their catchy song, "Hip To My Heart." Thankfully, they hadn’t yet sung my personal favorite, "You Lie." The crowd sang along with every tune enjoying the magnetism of lead singer Kimberly Perry’s personality. Besides singing their own songs, TBP even covered Queen’s "Fat Bottomed Girls."
I don’t know what time Brad Paisley finally hit the stage because I wasn’t looking at my watch. My eyes were glued to the master guitar player. Opening with his current radio single "Camouflage," Brad Paisley plays his guitar like no other. If you’ve never seen him play "live", you’re missing out. It’s hard to imagine how fast his fingers fly over the fret boards of his many guitars.
He earned many laughs during the video that accompanied his song "Celebrity," featuring a big-headed version of Brad Paisley. I couldn’t stop laughing. One of the best part of the show, for me, was when TBP came onstage again to accompany Paisley for "Whiskey Lullaby." Kimberly Perry did an excellent job.
But what drew the loudest roar out of the crowd was when a hologram image of Carrie Underwood appeared to sing "Remind Me" with Brad Paisley. When her image "walked" onstage, people screamed thinking it was actually her. And when they showed her on the big screen behind Paisley, the roar was deafening.
What really made last night amazing was the light show. A curtain of sorts hung from the ceiling directly in front of the stage, acting as a projector screen for the lights. All sorts of images and colors were displayed on the screen throughout the night. That along with the 3D screen made last night spectacular.
To end the show, Paisley invited TBP and McCreery onstage, along with all the people backstage and the big-head version of Brad Paisley to dance onstage next to a makeshift bar while he sang one of his most popular songs, "Alcohol."
