|Sydney’s Boutique is bringing fashion to new heights in Eastown this September|

Kristian Grant, owner and founder of Sydney’s Boutique, is a woman on the move. A compassionate woman with an eye for style, she began her career working in the non-profit/community development sector at both the United Way and the Dorothy B. Johnson Center for Philanthropy at GVSU. “I’ve never worked a retail job in my life,” says Kristian, “but I’ve always considered fashion to be universal, it has become my passion.”
Two years ago Kristian began thinking about the growing fashion industry in West Michigan and wanted to make her mark. Sydney’s Boutique opened to an eager customer base in October 2011 and she hasn’t looked back since. “My family always says that when I get an idea I run with it,” says Kristian, “I’m a very driven person.”
While Kristian loved the store space itself, the location wasn’t ideal. She didn’t have access to a storefront and wasn’t catering to her target demographic. Her current space did give Kristian an opportunity to define the identity of her boutique, build a customer base, and enhance her brand. Now, the timing is perfect for a change.
Sydney’s Boutique is set to open at their new Eastown storefront located at 1479 Lake Dr. on September 6th. Formerly a salon, Kristian plans to expand her business to include not only the latest in apparel and accessories, but salon services as well. Sydney’s plans to open in conjunction with Fashion’s Night Out taking place the evening of September 6th throughout all of Grand Rapids. “Opening night is all about over the top fun,” says Kristian. Their new location has a residential house feel that meshes perfectly with the Sydney experience. “We want people to feel at home in our store,” says Kristian. The opening will have a house party feel complete with signature desserts, drinks, and a local dj spinning the latest. They will also have onsite styling provided by Style Dolls out of Detroit, MI.
Before their opening event, be sure to look for Sydney’s Boutique at Rooftop Couture this coming Saturday evening in downtown Grand Rapids. Not only will their fashion be a featured event, but Kristian is producing the entire runway show. “We are showcasing local fashion designers, models, and stylists in a new and innovative way,” says Kristian, “I’ve never worked with a group this large and it has been non-stop fun.” The growth of Sydney’s Boutique is yet another testament to the fact the fashion is thriving, vibrant, and becoming a staple industry in the West Michigan area.
