It's a big weekend for holiday and family events with the Art Van Santa Parade, A Christmas Carol, Sesame Street Live, the Hudsonville Holiday Parade and Nite Lites at Fifth Third Ballpark.

Friday (11/16)

A Christmas Carol - The Grand Rapids Civic Theatre and School of Theatre Arts presents the timeless Charles Dickens classic that makes its West Michigan premiere after ten years at Madison Square Garden. Runs November 16-December 16.

Sesame Street Live! - When Elmo gets his hands on Abby Cadabby's magic wand, there's something in the air - and Sesame Street becomes a nonstop all-singing, all-dancing musical montage at Van Andel Arena. See Cookie Monster, Grover, Bert and Ernie and all of the favorite Sesame Street characters. Tickets start at $14.50.

Nite Lites Christmas Lights - Returning for a 15th year, see Fifth Third Ball transformed into a lighted mile-long winter wonderland November 16-December 31. Open daily 6-10 p.m. (including holidays); price per regular vehicle is $14.

We Remember - The Grand Rapids Symphony's Chorus celebrates 50 years with the presentation of an acclaimed, large-scale Holocaust memorial oratorio, along with Mendelssohn's fifth symphony and Martin Luther's "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God". Tickets for the DeVos Hall performances start at $18.

Grand Haven Light Night - Starting at 5 p.m., the holiday lights are turned on in downtown Grand Haven for the first time in the season. Participating shops will host open houses and luminaries will line the streets.

Saturday (11/17)

Art Van Santa Parade - Presented by the Grand Rapids Jaycees Saturday, November 17 at 9 a.m., the parade has been the traditional holiday season kick-off for the region for more than 100 years. See nearly 100 entries and floats, and a visit from Santa Claus. The route for 2012 will start at the corner of Michigan and Monroe, travel south on Monroe past Rosa Parks Circle and will end at Market and Weston.

Red Bull Trail Daze - The unique trail running competition near Robinette's will actually have two routes to the finish. Will participants choose the shorter course with more difficult terrain or the longer route on the easier path? Prizes, free cider and donuts will follow.

Hudsonville Holiday Parade - Celebrate the holiday season with a family friendly parade at 10 a.m. The route begins at Highland Drive & 32nd Avenue and ends at the fire station on Central Blvd. Hot beverages, snacks, and fun activities will follow the parade.

Founders 15th Anniversary - ‎Founders Brewing Company celebrates 15 years this Saturday inside the Taproom with live music, the draft release of Bolt Cutter and more. Ages 21+ welcome. No cover; first come first served.

Grand Raggidy Roller Girls - The Grand Raggidy Roller Girls are back home Saturday night to take on the Glass City Roller Girls and the South Bend Roller Girls in double header derby action. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.

Holiday Kerstmarkt - This open-air European Christmas Market at the Eighth Street Market Place in downtown Holland features sixteen vendors offering unique handcrafted gifts, authentic Dutch holiday treats, fresh greenery, ornaments and more Fridays and Saturdays through December 8.

Sunday (11/18)

Stomp - The international sensation STOMP visits the Forest Hills Fine Arts Center this Sunday. Watch as performs use brooms, lighters, wooden poles, plungers, hubcaps and much more to fill the venue with infectious rhythms. Tickets still available.
