Whether you're a fan of the outdoors in January or prefer to stay warm inside, there are a variety of events to please both tastes this weekend.

Friday (01/04)

Collegiate Invitational Ice Sculpting Competition - Watch the ice fly as the National Ice Carving Association's Collegiate Invitational Ice Sculpting Competition returns to downtown Holland. More than 20 of the most talented students will transform 300-pound blocks of ice into works of art Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.

Grand Rapids Griffins - The Oklahoma City Barons visit Van Andel Arena to take on the Griffins Friday night. Fans can enjoy dollar beers, dollar dogs and members of the military and college students can get discounted tickets to the game.

Lockington Premieres Cello Concerto - Grand Rapids Symphony Conductor David Lockington trades his baton for a bow to perform the premiere of a cello concerto at St. Cecilia Music Center. Tickets: $26-$34.

Saturday (01/05)

Grand Slam Juice Ball - Back for a fourth year at the JW Marriott, attendees will be transported to a "Grand Slam"-themed ballpark with games, ballpark-inspired food and guests in full baseball attire. Funds raised will go toward Juice Ball's goal of providing 250,000 juice boxes for the Grand Rapids community.

Juicy J and Yung Leak - Three 6 Mafia rapper Juicy J takes the stage at The Intersection with special guest Yung Leak. Tickets are $28-$32 with VIP available.

Grand Rapids Antiques Market & Old House Expo - The vintage and antique show at DeVos Place will have more than 200 vendors, $5 appraisals, a vintage fashion show, a pin-up contest and more. Tickets are $10 for 1 day; $12 for a weekend pass.

River City Improv - The clean, clever, fast-paced improv comedy based on audience suggestions (think "Whose Line Is It Anyway?") is back at the Ladies Literary Club building on Sheldon SE. Tickets are $10 per person and seating is first come, first served.

Sunday (01/06)

Ice Skating at Jam N Bean - Rosa Parks Circle isn't the only option for outdoor ice skating; Jam N Bean coffee shop and music venue on Cascade Rd SE also has open skate hours (including 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays). Cost is $1.50 to enter, $1.50 to rent skates.
