Eastown
Located between downtown and East Grand Rapids, Eastown originally grew around its role as a streetcar stop on the way from downtown to Reeds Lake during the late 19th century. Now the neighborhood is considered one of Grand Rapids’ most progressive and hippest districts with an eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, galleries and entertainment venues.
Throughout Eastown, historic homes, unique architecture and brick-lined streets combine with a diverse population and college student atmosphere to create an edgy scene that is home to hotspots like Billy’s, Mulligan’s and the Kava House. Ethnically diverse restaurants like The Pita House, Sandmann’s, and Bombay Cuisine can also be found here and specialty shops and art galleries carry goods ranging from antiques and rare books to clothing, cameras and crafts.
Each September the neighborhood hosts the Eastown Street Fair which showcases local musicans, artists, food and organizations.
