East Hills

The Center of the Universe can be found on Grand Rapids' southeast side. Tucked between Heritage Hill and Eastown, the East Hills district houses three distinct shopping areas, seven unique neighborhoods and a diverse selection of restaurants within its borders.

Fulton Street forms the northern border of the neighborhood and shoppers can find a variety of art, antiques and home furnishings in addition to a yoga center, bakery and an Ethiopian restaurant. The East Hills Business District at the intersection of Lake, Diamond and Cherry features Marie Catrib’s, a popular Lebanese/American restaurant, a kitchen accessories shop named Nourish, a children’s store and Grand Rapids’ only vegetarian restaurant. To the south, the Wealthy Street district boats Jamaican, Polish and Southern cuisine, as well as art galleries and clothing shops.

Three of East Hills’ seven residential neighborhoods are considered historic areas and architecturally significant buildings dot the area’s landscape. Mangiamo!, is located in a mansion constructed in 1875 and each room offers diners a different theme and atmosphere. Nearby, the D.A. Blodgett Homes for Children building dating from 1908, has found new life and is being converted into 53 townhouses.
