Midtown
Surrounded by seven different neighborhood districts, Midtown is a crossroads on Grand Rapids' east side. Bordered by Fuller Avenue to the east, Fulton Street to the south, Union Ave to the west and I-196 to the north, the neighborhood features one of the city's most popular weekly attractions -- the Fulton Street Farmer's Market.
Founded in 1922, the Farmer's Market offers locally-grown fruits, vegetables, plants and crafts four days a week from May through December. Further west on Fulton Street, the main business district has a variety of shops selling goods ranging from home furnishings and antiques to music and baked goods. Restaurants also dot the landscape including familiar Midtown staples Grand Coney, Birch Lodge and Vito's on the Hill.
The prospects for Midtown currently look promising, especially on the west side of the neighborhood, as the medical research and educational facilities along Michigan Avenue continue to move east. Park Row, a 34-unit condo project with properties starting at $160k is set to open in the summer of 2007.
