Bad Service, Bad Salad
Reviewed by Jamie, 2009-08-27 16:01:18

Despite all the rave reviews I had received from friends about Marie Catrib's, my visit to the restaurant was unfortunately unacceptable. While I understand that as a bustling restaurant certain details are missed, but our table had streaks of feta on it, the floor had chunks of bread on it, the strawberries in my spinach strawberry salad were slightly frozen and on the verge of going bad. Our server seemed to be always off in conversation with another employee rather than helping their tables. Their staff which had been described as knowledgable and helpful did not know answers to simple questions about the food.
I will not be returning.

Very Good

Marie Catrib's has an excellent menu that will make it hard to decide what to get because everything sounds good. The sandwiches are very good. I also recommend their breakfast - the seasoned potatoes are excellent. One negative would be the service which is borderline awful. The waitstaff is very nice and friendly but they need to brush up on their skills. I would recommend Marie Catrib's - go expecting bad service but great food that makes up for it.

Outstanding, Delicious and Wholesome

I love Marie Catrib's; the food, service, and friendly atmosphere are all extremely inviting. The Turkish coffee is fabulous but so is their hazelnut coffee. Sure, the garlic is ever-present, even for breakfast, but it's part of the charm of the vibrant flavors and creative cooking offered by this swell joint. Like so many modern restaurants, it can get extremely noisy at peak times. The breads are amazing; the fresh-squeezed juices are wonderful. I love the fact that everything is as locally grown and produced as possible. A friend dining with me found the French Toast too heavy and dry for her taste. I tend toward the myriad selections of salads, fresh soups, and veggie dishes as well as lovely breakfast combinations. But a long afternoon conversation over a cup of coffee and a shared cookie is heaven too.

Best Restaurant and Service

The good is amazing, they'll customize just about anything for you and add tofu to the sandwich if you're vegetarian or vegan. I love this place. The warmth, atmosphere and chatter! Who could ask for anything else. It's like being at home.

not my cup of tea

i really think that marie catribs does a nice job with being local and organic, and having options for our vegan friends. but seriously, someone needs to tell them to cut back on the garlic. i really like garlic, but there is so much raw garlic in everything, that my mouth hurt when i left and my eyes were watering. i have been there 4 times, and the fourth time was my last. i will not be back for a very long time. food prices add up fast, but at least you know youre paying for quality ingredients which softens the blow a little. i feel bad writing a negative review seeings how i enjoy what they do and how they contribute locally, but i cannot recommend eating there. stop by for a coffee and pastry instead.

The Best!!

Marie Catrib's is my favorite place on earth, ever. It's everything I could ever want in a restaurant, which means a lot since being vegan makes it hard to eat out AND eat well. Not only are the food and the atmosphere to LIVE for, but the restaurant itself is green (LEED certified, roof garden, alternative energy, pedestrian-friendly setting, food scraps are composted...)!
Just go; you'll fall in love.

This is absolutely one of the BEST restaurants in Grand Rapids. The food is fresh and delicious...everything I have tried is fabulous (the adult grilled cheese and spinach strawberry salad are two of my favorites). The staff is so pleasant and friendly. Marie Catrib's is the first place I choose when I go out for lunch!

One reviewer said, "It feels like you're eating at your best friend's house." Maybe that's why we keep returning from Denver, Colorado. When we book our flight to visit family, Marie Catrib's is the next thought on our mind. Fabulous food & terrific atmosphere!

AMAZING

Marie Catrib's is simply one of the best places to eat in western Michigan. EVERYTHING I have tried was beyond excellent--flavorful, fresh, many times with Marie's own unique twist. The hummus is so amazing I could eat it like soup. The service is always top notch--friendly, helpful, charming wait staff is icing on the already to die for cake. Oh yes--desserts--the homemade chocolate pudding is beyond compare. An orgasm with every bite--so worth the calories and sugar buzz!
