Raise your glasses Grand Rapids – it’s Cider Week! Get to know your local cideries and explore innovative flavors with unique pairings, while engaging in cider related activities all over the city. If you are planning on attending, here are some of the things you can look forward to.
When | Sunday, May 12, 2019 – Saturday, May 18, 2019
Brunch | Start the final day of Cider Week off right with the Farmhaus Cider Brunch at Rockwell Republic. Beginning at 10 AM until to 2 PM on May 18th, you can look forward to Rockwell’s famous brunch menu as well as Farmhaus Cider mimosas and cocktails.
Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth | Love cider and sweets? There will be plenty of activities to keep you busy! Stop by Love’s Ice Cream for their boozy ice cream float which features Farmhaus Cider’s cinnamon maple hard cider and hand crafted vanilla ice cream. Visit the Salted Cupcake to taste their Famhaus Cider cupcakes; a different selection will be featured each day of the festival. On May 18th from 6 -11 PM, close out the festivities with a cider and s’mores celebration at Vander Mill.
Get Active | On Thursday, May 16th, from 7-9 PM, head to the Fowling Warehouse for Cider Week Fowling. Enjoy this sport that is a unique take on bowling while drinking ciders provided by West Michigan’s finest. The event is $10 and includes open play for 21+ only.
A Perfect Pair-ing | Ciders can be even more enjoyable when you know the perfect bites to pair them with. Come down to Peppino’s Downtown Grille and Pizzeria Sports Lounge any day from May 13-18 11:00 – 1:00 AM to enjoy three pairings that include Virtue and Mackjac Ciders as well as a delicious apple cupcakes. Local Michigan ciders will be featured as well.
Be Cheesy | Kicking off Cider Week, the Cider House Dinner will take place on May 13 at Zoko 822 at 6:30 PM. A four course meal prepared by Chef Ryan Martin will be served. Which will include the perfect selection of De Maison Basque Ciders and Porrons. Then, get cheesy with a Tuesday Tastings Cider and Cheese Pairing event on May 14th from 6:30-8:30 PM at Craft Beer Cellar. Find out which ciders go best with which selection of The Cheese Lady’s gourmet cheeses.
Try a Trolley | On May 18th, you can enjoy the ultimate cider week experience by taking the Grand Rapids Beer Trolley on an immersive cider tour. Join the tour to explore the world of cider and find out more about where it is grown and produced. The tour goes from 12-3 PM and includes tastings, drink tickets, entry to the Cider Festival and more.
Paint | If you’re into arts and crafts, you can create your very own cider mug at Cascade Winery. The Cider and Paint event takes place in May 14th from 6-8 PM and after you’re done making your mug, they’ll make sure its full of your choice of beer, wine or cider.
Fit in a Festival | Cider Week may be considered a festival in and of itself, but while you’re there, be sure to stop off at the Great Lakes International Cider Festival which will be taking place at Rosa Parks Circle on May 18th from 1-5 PM. While there, you can try a wide variety of ciders and enjoy live music entertainment. Admission is $15 and guests must be 21+.
Celebrate Cider | Find out about the variety of cider being made available in the community. New to the cider scene, Creston Brewery will be releasing its Golden Age Blueberry Cider on May 13. Stop by any time from 12-11 PM to find out what it’s all about. Then, stop by the Vander Mill on the 16th from 4-11 PM to find out about the new releases they’ve been hiding in their cellar.
