We all know that Grand Rapids as has been named as Beer City USA. But Cider City? Well, that’s exactly what Grand Rapids is going to look like from May 13-19.

That’s right GR residents, it’s time to get ready for Cider Week!

Grand Rapids’ Cider Week is a seven-day long celebration of award-winning cider. It features a number of events and activities in which participants can experience tastings of unusual, quality ciders at local pubs and restaurants. There will also be food and cider pairings and guests will have the opportunity to schmooze with a number of international cider experts.

Why Grand Rapids, you may ask. What makes this little town such a hub for the cider industry?

Well, it turns out that Michigan has some of the best apples in the world. Their apple crop is shipped all over the nation making them the third largest apple producer and second largest apple cider producer in the country. They also have a number of notable apple cideries, all located within a seven-mile radius of each other, making for a great opportunity for guests to tour the area during Cider Week GR.

Cider Week promises a week of local fun that is not to be missed. The world’s largest cider judging competition, The Great Lakes International Cider and Perry Competition (GLINTCAP) will be held from May 16-19, just in time for Cider Week! GLINTCAP is the world’s largest cider judging competition, featuring cider products from more than 10 countries competing for awards in 18 categories. Though this event is closed to the public, there are volunteer opportunities available.

Winners of GLINTCAP will be announced at the Gillett Bridge Festival, which will be held on May 19. This event finale will mark the end of Cider Week, with more than 20 Michigan cideries in attendance and a great lineup of local music. Admission is $25 and tickets can be purchased here.
