Winter blues got you down? Well, never fear! Winter is a great time to participate in sports, enjoy nature, or take a carriage ride through a scenic nearby neighborhood. If you are in the Grand Rapids area, here are some great suggestions for winter activities near you.

Any properly frozen lake (always be careful) can be a wonderful outdoor skating rink but when you want a maintained option,  there’s downtown GR’s Rosa Parks Circle.  If skating under the stars with twinkly lights isn’t grand enough for you, hot chocolate and coffee are right across the street.

//Snowshoeing and Cross Country Skiing//

If you want your winter done right, you really can’t pass up the opportunity to do some snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. And what better place to do it than Palmer Park In Wyoming? Here you can enjoy a six-mile trail that twists and turns along woods, streams and open fairways.

//Sledding//

Sledding; it’s fun, exhilarating, and best of all, it’s free! The Grand Rapids area has tons of free hills that are great for sledding including the one in Richmond Park. Get on your winter gear and…have sled, will travel!

//Snowball Fights//

Making snowmen and snow forts can be a lot of fun, but sometimes we just have that irresistible urge to fling a snowball.  Any yard will suffice when the need to round that mound of snow and throw it appears, but there are also wonderful parks all around the area where you can make snowballs and friends! Just remember, it’s all fun and games until somebody loses an eye!

//Hiking//

Though some think hiking is best in the summer, spring or fall, the beauty of winter can be a sight to behold. Blandford Nature Center is a great place to see sun shimmering on the snow or take in views of icy bare branches.

//Carriage Rides//

Carriage rides are so romantic…and winter is a great time for this activity! What could be cozier than seeing the sights of Grand Rapids while snuggling up with a friend or loved one?! Classic Carriage LLC. provides scenic rides through downtown offering guided tours or quiet one hour or half hour trips.

//Snowboarding or Skiing//

These are both exhilarating activities you can enjoy in the West Michigan area. Cannonsburg Ski Area not only offers a variety of runs and ski lifts, it also features snowboard clinics, lessons and safety videos.

It’s really true… snow tubing is the new sledding! This giggle-inducing activity can make any winter day fun. Cannonsburg is a great option for snow tubing but any hill can be a tubing hill.

Hot tubbing can be a great way to stay warm and relax on a cold winter day, even outdoors! Oasis Hot Tubs is your Grand Rapids go-to, providing indoor and outdoor settings, each uniquely themed.

With all these exciting activities in your community, those winter blues must be fading already. So what are you waiting for? Jump into your winter bucket list this weekend!
