GR{KNOW} | 2019 Uptown Holiday Shop Hop

Uptown Holiday Shop Hop Trolley Transportation

The “most wonderful time of the year” is upon us which means shopping season is kicked into high gear. If you are working on scratching the names off of your holiday list, the Grand Rapids Uptown Holiday Shop Hop is an event you won’t want to miss. Learn more about this year’s event highlights.

Date & Time | Thursday, December 5 | 4P – 10P

Location | Uptown’s Four Vibrant Neighborhood Districts – East Hills, East Fulton, Eastown & Wealthy Street

Let’s start with what to expect! With over 150 participating retailers, each businesses will be decked out with their finest holiday displays offering in store specials, one of a kind gifts and live entertainment. Free transportation via trolleys and hopper buses will be available to take shoppers from one destination to another.

The Uptown district has been steadily growing over the years. Ever since the early 1900’s, it has been a place for locals and out of town guests to shop, dine and enjoy live performances. In 2004, Uptown was named as one of the “Cool Cities in Progress” and was given $100,000 in grant money towards improvements. From there, Uptown began to emerge as one of Grand Rapids best kept secrets when it came to places to find vintage goods and prime entertainment.

The Shop Hop is just one of the many ways the neighborhood is working to continue to promote the community. What started as one retailers open house has grown to become a buzz-worthy experience. Here’s what Peter Jacob of Kind Creative and Cakabakery had to say, “Shop Hop seems like the kick-off to the Christmas shopping season. Shop owners spiff up their storefronts and the streets are filled with shuffling groups of ladies (and a few gents) bragging about the one-of-a-kind gifts they just discovered. It’s cute. It’s sweet… and I’d hate to miss out on it.”

This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever. Some highlights include Urban Exchange’s Winter Sale. Stop by to cash in on their deals and get your photo taken with a variety of Christmas characters inside their photo booth.

Another can’t miss attraction will be Harmony Brewing’s Harmony Eastown Holiday Tree Lighting Party. Their event will be running from 6-9 PM and will include beer and and their special Los Cojones Mexican hot chocolate which will be served in the parking lot. There will be hot chocolate and cookies on hand for the kids as well.
