World of Winter | Manidoo Bawating

Sunday, January 30 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The 11-foot-tall steel “Manidoo Bawating” sculpture is custom-designed to honor important symbols and unique traditions of the Native American community that thrived along the Grand River and throughout the Great Lakes region.
Its name means “Spirit of the Rapids” in the indigenous Anishinaabemowin language.
This artwork was designed by the Grand River Bands of Ottawa Indians and local artist Alan Compo in collaboration with the HYBYCOZO art initiative based in Oakland, CA.
Manidoo Bawating is one of many public art installations during the annual World of Winter festival.
