Reinvent your kitchen this month with instructional food (and drink) classes in Grand Rapids. Expand your expertise and your palate with these fun and creative menus:

  • Saturday, March 4th: Bennys and Bellinis (Downtown Market)
    • From 10am-1pm
    • Ages 21+
    • Registration $50
    • A hands on class to learn how to make a great brunch, including lessons on scrambled eggs, rustic steak benedict, and barbacoa eggs benedict with chimichurri hollandaise. You will also learn how to create a fresh bellini using house-made peach puree and prosecco.

  • Thursday, March 9th: Girls Night Out: Fresh Spring Flavors (Sur La Table)
    • From 6:30pm-8:30pm
    • Ages 18+
    • Registration $69/person
    • Create an unforgettably fun girls night out with this hands-on cooking class. The instructor will teach you the essentials for making the most of fresh spring produce. On the menu is grilled asparagus with lemon-caper aioli, chicken and  shrimp paella, marinated kale and beet salad with goat cheese, and greek yogurt panna cotta with honey and citrus.

  • Saturday, March 11th: Family Cooking Basics (Downtown Market)
    • From 3pm-6pm
    • Family class
    • Registration ranges from $10-$55
    • Focuses on how to encourage and include young chefs in the kitchen. The class includes cooking a meal while learning culinary skills appropriate for all ages. The meal on the menu is a family favorite: spaghetti with meatballs with veggie sauce, cheesy garlic bread, and chocolate pudding for dessert.

  • Saturday, March 11th: Amore Trattoria Italiana Free Cooking Class of the month
    • From 2pm-3pm
    • No registration, just show up
    • In this edition of free Italian cooking, you will learn unusual salads and risotto. (They note that the bar is open during the class).

  • Tuesday, March 14th: Sensible Cooking for One (Downtown Market)
    • From 6pm-8:30pm
    • Ages 16+
    • Registration $65
    • A class that prepares simple and delicious toasts, a steak and quinoa salad with a poached egg, and a spiked mocha with caramelized brioche. Designed for those cooking meals for one.

  • Wednesday, March 15th: One Pot Meals (Downtown Market)
    • From 11:30am-1:30pm
    • Ages 16+
    • Registration $55
    • This class will show you how to cook a delicious meal without the mess: all done in a pot. On the menu is skillet white bean bruschetta, shrimp fried rice, bean and sausage hotpot, and finishing it off with a giant salted chocolate skillet cookie.

    • Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a Irish winter meal. On the menu is a colcannon dip, Irish soda bread and a Guinness lamb stew.

  • Saturday, March 18th: Date Night: Steakhouse Favorites (Sur La Table)
    • From 7pm-9pm
    • Ages 18+
    • Registration $85/person
    • Spice up date night with a cooking class on modern versions of classic steakhouse favorites. The instructor will teach you everything from cooking with cast iron to perfectly searing steak. On the menu is classic spinach salad with warm bacon vinaigrette, cast iron seared steak with caramelized shallots, and for dessert, a bourbon caramel ice cream sundae.

  • Sunday, March 19th: Wine Country Favorites (Sur La Table)
    • From 5pm-7pm
    • Ages 18+

    • Cooking with wine brings out the delicious flavors hidden in our everyday dishes. In this class, you will learn a range of ways to cook with wine, such as poaching and making a pan sauce. On the menu is dried fig tapenade and goat cheese crostini, seared chicken with riesling creme fraiche and tarragon, endive and radicchio salad with champagne vinaigrette and toasted hazelnuts, and wine poached pears with cardamom scented sabayon.

    • By using 5 pantry staple items, you will create a magnificent cheese, tomato, and herb frittata, roasted smashed potatoes, a crisp simple salad, and flourless peanut butter cookies.
