It’s hard to keep up with the booming culinary scene in Grand Rapids these days. With one of the best culinary schools in the country right down the street, GRCC Secchia Institute for Culinary Education, it’s no wonder there are so many excellent restaurants to dine at.

Bringing genuine Mexican cuisine to downtown Grand Rapids. MeXO prides itself on bringing a modern touch to classic pre-Hispanic dishes. The plating of the food is just as elegant as the renovated building that was once home to Brian’s Books. They also feature several varieties of Tequila and Mezcal making MeXO both a popular destination of both food and cocktails.

Why you should go: Go to MeXO for the classic yet modern twist on Mexican cuisine. It’s the perfect date night destination or a place to take your foodie friends that are visiting from out of town.

ROAM by San Chez is bringing global street food to the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. True to the spirit of San Chez, ROAM offers up delicious tapas and encourages diners to share their dining experience together. The menu is organized by early dishes (breakfast fare), proteins, bowls, veggies, bites (snacks/dips), and sweets. ROAM also delivers up an excellent beverage program with assorted teas, coffee, wine, cocktails, and a variety of non-alcoholic drinks (hello Orange Creamsicle Shirley Temple).

Why you should go: Dining at ROAM is a fun experience. Whether you plan to talk about your food the whole time or not, you most certainly will. Go for business meetings, date night, or a night out with friends. ROAM is simply fun.

Linear may have one of the best locations in Grand Rapids. Located just off of the Grand River, next to Canal Park, diners can look forward to sitting right on the river this summer for the ultimate dining experience. The menu is based on seasonal availability of foods in Michigan and will be rotating throughout the different seasons. Linear also features an extensive bar menu with a variety of both craft and domestic beers, spirits, wine, and signature cocktails.

Why you should go: The menu at Linear is highly seasonal making their dishes taste exceptional due to their fresh ingredients. You’ll be able to experience all four seasons of the Michigan growing season through dining at Linear.

Stan Diego

Bringing SoCal to West Michigan is Stan Diego, a Baja taco kitchen concept. With the recently renovated space, diners can feel the sunny California vibes complete with a retro VW surf van at the center of the restaurant.  Stan Diego offers a variety of delicious taco flavors, everything from chicken to fish to mushroom. There is definitely something for everyone at the menu on Stan Diego. They also feature a great cocktail menu with their refreshing house margaritas.

Why you should go: Because Stan Diego is always a good time. It’s as simple as that. Great atmosphere, cocktails, and food. Bring all your friends and family and prepare to fiesta and play on their foosball table.

Westside Social Tavern

Westside is the best side is certainly holding true with the brand new Westside Social Tavern. With American classics like wings, the patty melt, and steak, Westside is serving up the classics but with modern twists and perfectly executed flavors. It’s not every day that you find a sous-vide pork chop in a tavern.

Why you should go: Westside should be your go-to Tavern for a night out with friends and family, happy hour after work, or to catch the big game. Their spin on classic American cuisine will even impress the foodies out there.
