The holidays are in full swing and there’s nothing like winter sports to get us in the mood to enjoy the festivities. Grand Rapids residents are fortunate to have Walker Ice and Fitness Center as a place where they can ice skate, work out, play sports and socialize with members of their community. The Walker Ice and Fitness Center has year-round resources for Grand Rapids residents of all ages. Their fitness center has been around for over 2 years. It contains workout rooms, locker rooms, steam and sauna rooms and individual showers. It is a great place to go for fitness classes, personal training or just to get some cardio and weightlifting in on your personal time.
The Ice Arena is another Walker Center attraction. It features one NHL size sheet of ice, heated seating for 400, a heated lobby area and five large, fully equipped showers and locker rooms. The arena hosts local hockey games as well as freestyle skating sessions.
The Walker Ice and Fitness Center isn’t just a location for winter sports. They offer plenty of activities year-round. Children and adults are welcome to participate in their rec programs which include softball, soccer and bowling leagues.
They are also actively involved in the city’s parks and rec department as well. Be sure to visit their web site to make reservations to host events in the park and learn more about what the parks have to offer. The Rec Center also hosts event throughout the year, and with the holiday season coming, you can bet they have some exciting things on the horizon.
One event you will want to put on your calendar is the Annual Walker Winter Fest. This will be taking place on Thursday, December 5th from 5:30-7:30 PM at the Walker Ice and Fitness Center. It will include pictures with Santa, hot cocoa and cookies, free ice skating for the first 300 guests, kids crafts and activities, live music, live reindeer and more.
If you don’t have plans yet for New Year’s Eve, ring in the new year at the Neon New Year’s Eve Party with music, skating, a light show, a disco dance party and a clock countdown. Admission is just $5 and there will be party favors given to the first 300 guests.
