GR{KNOW} | Grand Rapids Named “Top Minor League Market” by Sports Business Journal

Grand Rapids Griffins | First Practice of the Season

Grand Rapids sports fans MAKE SOME NOISE! Our city’s minor league has been named the “Top Minor League Market” in the United states by Sports Business Journal. This is the latest in an extensive list of national honors for the West Michigan region. It extends to include the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins, the NBA G League’s Grand Rapids Drive and the Midwest League’s West Michigan Whitecaps

Grand Rapids Drive

The Sports Business Journal has been hosting minor league rankings since 2005 and the Grand Rapids minor league has been coming up in the ranks ever since. It has finally dethroned Des Moines as the number one honoree. Tenure, attendance and economic standings were all factors considered in determining how the leagues placed.

In maintaining their sterling reputation, all teams have exciting developments coming up for the 19-20 season. The Grand Rapids Drive has a full schedule of games and promotional nights. The Whitecaps have several games planned as well as events like their Dog Dime Nights, Coppercraft Thrifty Thursdays and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Family Day. The Grand Rapids Griffins have mascot appearances, reading programs and youth leagues available for their fans.

West Michigan Whitecaps

Winning this prestigious award marks a true advancement for Grand Rapids, the teams and their efforts. Griffins’ president Tim Gortsema had this to say, “I think it’s a validation of what we’re doing here, the work that’s been done from a franchise level; but it’s a larger validation for the community and the outpouring of support that West Michigan has had for the Griffins, the Whitecaps and the Drive for years.

Well said Tom! We look forward to cheering on the teams during the upcoming 2019-2020 season!
