Friday, August 21

28th Street Metro Cruise – Now in its eleventh year, see thousands of cool cars cruise along 28th Street from Grandville to Cascade both Friday evening and Saturday. Special events include a pin-up contest, workshops, special shows at car dealerships and much more. Admission and participation are free.

Movies in the Park – The free summer movie series at Ah-Nab-Awen Park closes out the season with a double feature: Ghostbusters followed by The Lost Boys. Pre-film entertainment will begin at 7 p.m. and the movies will start at dusk.

Pop Evil – The hometown rockers continue their national tour in support of new album ‘Up’ with a stop at The Intersection. Special guests Aranda and Red Sun Rising will open. Tickets are $20 in advance or 4 for $64.

Tom Green – The comedian, actor and Periscope star takes the stage at Dr. Grins for a set of unpredictable stand-up shows. Tickets are $25-$30.

Vince Gill – The winner of 18 CMA Awards, including Entertainer of the Year, and 20 Grammy Awards, the country singer and songwriter visits the Meijer Gardens Amphitheater to perform hits like “I Still Believe in You” and “The Reason Why.”

Saturday, August 22

Shoreline Jazz Festival – Musician Alexander Zonjic returns to Heritage Landing in Muskegon for the two day festival of live jazz that includes performance by artists like Al JarreauNorman Brown with Marion Meadows and White Hot Summer Groove featuring Peter White. General admission tickets are $25. 

Backyard Bourbon & BBQ – Held at The B.O.B’s parking lot, the third annual event will have barbecue from Grand Rapids’ best pit masters, live music and more than 50 bourbons for tasting. Family-friendly events include a John Ball Zoo petting zoo, a bounce maze and face painting. Admission is free.

Danish Festival – It’s the 51st Anniversary of Greenville’s celebration of Danish heritage. Visitors can check out food booths, an arts & crafts fair, theater, the Grand Dansk Parade, hot air balloon flights (weather permitting), live music, tractor pulls and more.

2015 Stamp Show – Philatelists will converge on DeVos Place this weekend to visit 120 collectible stamp dealers and vendor booths and browse through 15,000 pages of exhibits. Admission is free and the show is open to the public.

Back to School Night – The first 500 kids in the gate to see the races at Berlin Raceway will receive a free juice box, hot dog and activity at Craigs Cruisers. Fans can also join Gravy from HOT-FM and help stuff a race car with school supplies that will be donated to Grand Rapids Public Schools. Adult tickets are $15, kids 11 and under are free.

Sunday, August 23

Restaurant Week Grand Rapids – It’s the final chance to try a special three-course menu at more than 60 local eateries participating in Restaurant Week this year. $1 from each special menu purchase for $28 will go to the student scholarship fund at Secchia Institute for Culinary Education at Grand Rapids Community College.

Run by the Blue – The fun run 5K at Riverside Park is all about water with bubble machines, “the people wash” and the untimed run along the Grand River.
