GR{KNOW} |  Noodle Pig: An Authentic Ramen Shop Pledging to Fighting Food Insecurity

📍 Coming Winter 2022 | Below 601 Bond Apartments in Suite 102

Want to feel good about the food you eat?

Look no further than Noodle Pig, an authentic Ramen restaurant set to open this winter in the Grand Rapids area. Not only do they take a healthy fast-food approach, but they’re also pledging to use proceeds to combat hunger issues throughout the world.

Noodle Pig is a family-owned authentic Ramen and boba tea shop, where everything served is made from scratch. They use nutrient rich ingredients to prepare dishes that feature traditional Japanese flavors and include some innovative fusion twists. Noodle Pig plans to purchase a Japanese noodle machine and patrons will be able see the process in action.

Besides serving delicious food, they also take steps to fight world hunger. Each bowl of ramen purchased will feed three hungry children–one located in the city, one located in the nation and one abroad. Noodle Pig’s goal is to “end child hunger, one bowl at a time”.

The restaurant partners with three charities, the Hand 2 Hand in West Michigan, the national organization No Kid Hungry and Faith in Deeds which is based in India. Owner Chris Wessely, a West Michigan native and 2011 graduate of Grand Rapids Community College’s Secchia Institute for Culinary Education college alum, consulted with these charities to find out how much it costs to feed each child–then integrated the amount into the price of each bowl he serves.

The amount for the charitable meals are subtracted before Wessely even accounts for his own expenses –including rent and utilities.

Wessely is currently working with an architect on the build out of the restaurant which will be located at 601 Bond Apartments. He is hoping to be open during the early part of 2022. Guests may place their orders from a kiosk outside once the Ramen shop is open.

Noodle Pig is shaping up to be a healthy and delicious dining option while doing its part to help our community, the nation and the world. Sounds like a win-win to us.
